Compound Microscopes: brightfield, phase contrast, fluorescence, inverted brightfield, inverted phase contrast, reflected light, transmitted light compound microscopes for professional and research level applicationsThe compound microscope consists of a hollow cylinder with two or more double convex lenses placed at both of the two extremities. The lens nearest to the object is called the objective; the upper lens nearest the eye of the observer is called the eyepiece. The objective lens has a very short focal length used to form a greatly enlarged image which is then viewed with the eyepiece.
A compound light microscope is limited to about 2000x magnification. Greater magnification is possible, but neither the human brain nor eyes could register what they are seeing. With a limit of around 2000x magnification you can view bacteria, algae, protozoa, and a variety of human/animal cells. |
